The LiMA Research Cluster aims to bring together existing top-level expertise in multilingualism (linguistics, education sciences) at the University of Hamburg and to combine and focus this expertise on the investigation of migration-induced multilingualism as found in urban centers worldwide.
It will investigate whether and in what way migration-induced multilingualism can be translated into advantages for individuals and society and into benefits for the cultural and economic development of urban centers.
The city of Hamburg will serve as a model for an international comparison of similar urban centers.
The Cluster will implement extensive and interdisciplinary graduate training and establish an International Graduate School in conjunction with the University of Calgary.
